Pantone Color of the Year 2020
The color will be chosen in December, perhaps echoing attention to the environment. Earth tones will be popular.
We're heading towards Bleached Coral
The Pantone Color of the Year 2020 will likely be associated with nature, encompassing elements from the sky, earth, and sea. The official announcement of the "Color of the Year" chosen by the Pantone Institute is expected next December.
Predictions for the Pantone Color of the Year 2020, such as Bleached Coral, have already circulated on the internet and social media. After the selection of Living Coral in 2019, the expectation is for Bleached Coral for the upcoming year.
The name literally means "bleached coral"
And it refers to the change in color of colorful corals when they are dying. The choice will fall on this shade to underline the attention to the environment, given the over 45% of coral from the Great Barrier Reef that has died in the last three years. And the cause is to be found in pollution, uncontrolled fishing, and global warming. Launching the provocation and pushing for this new Pantone color are two creatives, art director Huei Yin Wong and copywriter Jack Railton-Woodcock from Melbourne, who wanted to highlight the danger of losing the world's largest coral reef system.
TRENDS 2020: WALL COLORS IN THE LEAD
In addition to the Pantone color, the color palette will also include beige, putting white in the background. The 2020 trends for wall colors will make room for other neutral tones such as beige, black, sage green, and navy blue. Younger generations, however, are opting for stronger hues like yellow, purple, orange, and blue.
COLORS FOR DECOR: LATEST TRENDS ON THE HORIZON
Earth tones will be popular among the upcoming décor trends. This includes gray, beige, sage green, brown, and copper, as well as yellow (ranging from pastel tones to ochre). Metallic tones will also be prominent, adding a bright and futuristic touch to environments. Moreover, there will be an influx of decorative elements and accessories made of wood, as well as organic products in every environment and for every piece of furniture.
Looking further ahead, perhaps not immediately, fluorescent colors will emerge on the horizon, such as fuchsia or yellow, to be combined as desired. The key is to maintain a fluorescent theme throughout the space.
What is Pantone color?
Pantone Inc. is an American company primarily involved in technologies dedicated to graphics, color cataloging, and the production of a system for their identification. The Pantone system has become the international standard for graphics, also used for color management in industry and chemistry. The goal of the system, developed in the 1950s, was to classify colors and transport them into the CMYK printing system (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black) through a code.
Colors, along with their respective codes, are thus entered into a catalog where they can be browsed and selected. Since 2000, the Pantone Color Institute has proclaimed the color of the year. Pantone has the ability to influence the world of creatives, and not only them.
